Learn the art of fire lighting and prepare your own mouth-watering meal while being surrounded by the beauty of our wildlife centre. Alongside our expert instructors, you will learn various fire lighting methods including flint, steel, and bow drill. Then get ready to cook up a storm using delicious ingredients, including fresh vegetables, a variety of meats and of course, the classic toasted marshmallows to finish off. We have everything you need for a tasty outdoor meal.

Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with some of your favourite animals? With our Keeper for the Day experience, you’ll have the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and work alongside our farm team. This unique opportunity gives you the chance to feed, handle and learn about our animals, and with multiple animal encounters, you’re sure to make many new furry or feathery friends along the way! Here’s what your busy day as Keeper will look like:

– Meerkat Talk & Feed
– Reptile Handling & Feeding
– Reindeer Walk

For the little ones, we offer a special, shorter encounter focused solely on our friendly meerkats. Children can enjoy creating meerkat enrichment and even hand-feeding our friendly meerkat mob.

Who doesn’t love a Meerkat? This is your chance to get stuck in and meet them close up in their shared enclosure with our two porcupines Qulibert and his little brother. Meerkats love to play so you can make them some enrichment feeds too, just to keep them entertained for the afternoon. The porcupine feeding will be done using long-reach tongs to avoid those pesky pointy bits.

We also offer a meerkat-only version of the encounter for the little ones to enjoy.

This warming experience gives you the chance to meet and greet some of our friendly residents. Our reindeer welcome lots of attention and you’ll soon become best friends with our goats (mainly because you’ll have their lunch), plus we have our porcupines, meerkats, owls, kookaburras, snakes, lizards, ferrets and many more waiting for you to come to meet them.

Kick off your holiday in style with an animal experience like no other. Arrive at Gwel after a long drive and enjoy dinner alongside a unique animal encounter, the perfect way to start your break without having to worry about cooking on your first night. Get up close and personal with our beautiful owls and animals, witnessing indoor owl flying, a bug meet and greet, porcupine feeding and then finish the evening with an outdoor owl flying encounter.

Unpack your bags, head down to the wildlife centre, and get ready to make unforgettable memories.

Come and spend some time with us meeting a variety of our incredible birds of prey including our little owl, snowy owl and European Eagle Owl. First, you will learn about how we train these beautiful animals and then you’ll enjoy an explanation about the equipment we use. Finally, you will have the chance to fly the birds yourself to see them in action.

Meet our beautiful reindeer, including Syd, Tesson, and our newest addition, Oakley. Join us for a stroll across our wildlife meadow, where they can enjoy some healthy browse while you take in the breathtaking view of Portreath Bay. Participants will alternate walking the reindeer and enjoy cuddle time with these majestic animals.

Come and explore the curious and mixed world of reptiles and amphibians, this encounter offers you the chance to see a variety of animals, big and small. You will meet some smaller native species as well as some more exotic species. If you’re feeling brave enough, why not even hand-feed some of the bug-eating reptiles?
