Loch Awe, our northern gem, offers an ideal gateway to the Scottish Highlands & Islands, with fantastic nearby walking options. Just a short five-minute drive away lies the Inverawe Nature Trails, weaving through Inverawe Smokehouse, lakeside paths, and wildlife-rich woodlands.
For history buffs, venture to Kilmartin Glen to uncover ancient standing circles, intriguing rock carvings, and cairns. Seasoned hikers can conquer two Munros (Ben Cruachan and Stob Diamh), along with the Corbet Beinn a’ Bhuiridh, while the ridge walk between the Munros treats you to breathtaking vistas. Loch Awe Holiday Park is a prime location for fishing enthusiasts, with Loch Awe itself as the star attraction. Here, you can enjoy angling amidst secluded islands and bays, while also soaking in breathtaking views of Kilchurn Castle. The loch is teeming with a variety of fish, including wild brown trout, ferox trout, rainbow trout, salmon, sea trout, arctic char, pike, and perch. From March to October, the 24-mile shoreline offers an abundance of catches, making it a popular choice for anglers of all levels.
Coarse fishing is open year-round, while game fishing is available from March 15th to October 6th. For permits and boat rentals, contact Loch Awe Boats in Dalmally at 01866 833 256. Mackay’s Loch Fishery, near Oban, is renowned for fly fishing, offering opportunities for brown and rainbow trout fishing, even in the off-season.
