The 5 Best Dog-Friendly Beaches in Cornwall

Cornwall is famous for its vast array of glorious sandy beaches, and there’s no shortage of coastline you can bring your four-legged friends along to, with over 300 to choose from!

Below, we’ve picked out a number of our favourites, whether your pooches want to dig, run, splash or play, and they’re all within just a 30-minute drive of our coastal resort, Gwel an Mor.

Portreath Beach

3 minutes from Gwel an Mor (0.7 miles)

Our closest beach, Portreath, welcomes dogs anytime from 1st September to 30th June and outside the hours of 10am to 6pm from 1st July to 31st August. You’ll find a car park, a café, and another smaller cove separated by the high tide.

16 minutes from Gwel an Mor (5.9 miles)

Lighthouse island views, plenty of parking, a great café for hot chocolate and cakes and you’ll normally spot a seal or a two – what more does a doggie need? Free for your pooches to roam all year round.

Hayle Towans

16 minutes from Gwel an Mor (9.5 miles)

3 miles of gorgeous golden sand to run free, sand dunes, and plenty of rock pools to wallow in. Hayle Towans is great for dog walks, and at low tide, all the Hayle beaches join up to provide an impressive stretch of sand, so vast it rarely gets crowded. There is a seasonal ban during July and August where dogs are not permitted on the beach from 10am-6pm, but you’re free to explore with them the rest of the day!

21 minutes from Gwel an Mor (8.1 miles)

Explore huge caves and walk all the way to Porthtowan during low tide, and head up onto the coast path and explore plenty of filming spots from BBC’s Poldark during high tide. When you’re done, head back to the beach café for one of their famous ‘Hedgehog’ ice creams or a hot-filled baguette. Car parking is available via National Trust, and there is a seasonal ban during July and August where dogs are not permitted on the beach from 10am-6pm, but you’re free to explore with them the rest of the day!

Marazion Beach

26 minutes from Gwel an Mor (15.9 miles)

Views of St Michael’s Mount, miles of sandy beach, and the pretty town of Marazion to explore; packed with cafes, little shops and galleries – plenty of fun for pups and owners. There is a seasonal ban during July and August where dogs are not permitted on the beach from 10am-6pm, but you’re free to explore with them the rest of the day!

We know that pets are part of the family, so leaving them behind when you go on holiday isn’t an option for many of us. That’s why we welcome pets at our five-star resort and have a wide range of pet-friendly accommodations available – all of which are finished to the highest standard.

We’ll provide you with; a fluffy bed to sleep in during their stay, a bag of tasty welcome treats and some poop bags.

Plus, our restaurant The Terrace has a dog-friendly indoor and outdoor area, we have water and treat bowls located all over our resort, and we have wash-off stations for sandy paws after all those long walks.
