Silloth Town Centre

Stroll into Silloth to discover its traditional seaside charms. There’s a classic indoor seaside amusement arcade and just outside you’ll find a merry-go-round, trampolines, and bouncy castle plus a Thomas the Tank Engine train to take people for a spin around the village green, weather and time of year depending.
Just next to the green, there are two play areas to suit different age groups and a splash pad that’s open in summer.
If your stomach is rumbling there are cafes, pubs, takeaways, grocery shops and an ice cream parlour. There’s nothing quite like fish and chips while gazing out to sea!

Silloth West Beach

The promenade makes for a lovely family-friendly walk offering amazing views across the water to Scotland, but if it’s bucket-and-spade-action you’re after, wander around to sandy Silloth West Beach. The surrounding grassy dunes are always fun for a run-up and down, too!

Check the tides, as the water can be quite far out – though that mkes it ideal for a game of beach football!

The Cumbrian coast has no shortage of scenic beaches – a few miles down the coastline you’ll find Allonby, and beyond, Maryport.

This is a museum/exhibition based on a collection of toy soldiers, related forts, guns, and battlefield models. There is also Hadrian’s Wall feature and historical information. There are group talks on the history of toys and military history. The exhibition includes over 6,000 figures laid out by theme – from the nationality to historical period, manufacturer, and modelling material. There are large battlefield layouts and activity sheets for young visitors.

Go wild and experience a world of wildlife! There are over 100 species from Anaconda to Zebra. Rare and endangered species like Gibbons and Asian Fishing Cats, plus family favourites like lemurs and Meerkats. There are fantastic Bird of Prey Flying displays, excellent Keeper Talks and Reptile Encounters plus play areas (indoors and out). There are plenty of places for a picnic and a refurbished café serving delicious home-made food all day. This is a great day out for all the family.

The Lakes Distillery in the Lake District

This attraction is one for the adults. Go behind the scenes at The Lakes’ ultramodern distillery where their whisky maker’s unique approach comes to life. Accompanied by an expert tour guide, you can explore the Still Room, learn about the impact of oak and cask seasoning on flavour creation, and discover how to make The Lakes whisky, gin, and vodka. Afterwards, guests over the age of 18 are invited to finish the tour by enjoying a hosted tasting of three of The Lakes’ spirits, with the opportunity to visit the distillery shop.

Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery is Carlisle’s finest visitor attraction, and houses considerable collections of fine and decorative art, human history, and natural sciences. Old Tullie House is set in attractive and well-planted gardens. In the main displays you will be taken on a journey through the ages, from the prehistoric Cumbria, through the eras of the Romans, Border Reivers, and Victorians to the present day. You will also meet wildlife of the Eden valley (set under a changing audio-visual ceiling display) and a new gallery setting out a fabulous costume collection.

Ullswater Lake in the Lake District

This is a magical lake with magnification mountain scenery to the south and over to the north you will find softer rolling hills. The lake is seven and half miles long and a mile across placing Ullswater as the second largest lake in England. You can enjoy the stunning views around the lake by boat, bike and bus, or why not try the Ullswater Way, a 20 mile circular route around the lake. We realise we said within 60 minutes of Solway, however, this beautiful lake is well worth the extra four minutes in the car!

Explore the brilliant outdoor adventure play area, Walby’s Wacky Golf, JCB Dig & Play giant sand pit, trampolines, pedal go-karts and tractors, animal paddocks, seasonal maize maze and tractor & trailer ride around the farm’s nature trail.

In addition, there are Seasonal Events at various points throughout the year with everything from Summer Shenanigans to Grandparents’ Day, Pumpkin Picking at Halloween, and the renowned Santa Experience at Walby’s Winter Wonderland – to name but a few! The café, and the majority of the Farm Park, is pushchair and wheelchair friendly. Walby Farm Park really is a fun day out for all the family!

Watchtree Nature Reserve in the Lake District

Watchtree reserve has become a popular visitor attraction due to the warm welcome from the friendly team, the variety of wildlife and the other attractions including cycle service. Brown hares, roe deer, foxes stoats and weasels are just some of the mammals which roam these fields, whilst in the sky, more than 60 species of bird have been spotted. Watchtree has a fantastic variety of habitats. There are woodlands, planted with red squirrels in mind, and wetlands which have become great breeding grounds for insects and amphibians, as well as traditional hay meadows, ideal for boosting the bird population.
